DataStream Imaging Systems of Lexington KY, in association with Fortune Hill and WildRiver Systems Software of Japan, is pleased to bring to the US/European market one of the most exciting filter packages in years. WildRiverSSK is a suite of seven filters which are designed to expand your creative horizons. From color remapping to image manipulation, WildRiverSSK will allow artists to express themselves as never before. What would have taken hours can now be done in seconds. Imagine setting text on fire, making clear skies rain, tiling earth, or turning a text to water. All of the elements are here for you to become more expressive.
To follow, you will find a description of each of the filters. Once your appetite is thoroughly whetted, there will be a brief comment on availability and cost.
For demo purposes, only DekoBoko is enabled and can be applied. DekoBoko can be applied in Monocolor, Transparent, or Grayscale. Again, for demo purposes, DekoBoko can only be applied in one color. To install the WildRiverSSK demo. simply drag the demo into the Filters folder of Photoshop. When Photoshop is launched, the demo will appear in the Filters pull down menu. You may view descriptions of all seven filters but may only view the interface and apply DekoBoko. Select DekoBoko from the demo menu interface and select a button shape of your choice. Click on the Apply button which will then take you back to the demo menu interface. When you click on the OK button located at the bottom right of the demo menu interface, the filter will apply on your image. Below is a description of the filter.
DekoBoko
The word DekoBoko is Japanese for convex and concave. This filter creates 3-D style frames that are useful in making button shapes from rectangular selections. You can create a variety of buttons by selecting different patterns for the inside region of each button, or you can select the inside and apply another filter such as MagicCurtain. (To make buttons from non-rectangular shapes, use the DekoStamp or BokoStamp patterns from MagicMask.)
Supported Models
• DekoBoko supports RGB and Grayscale images.
Structure of DekoBoko
The DekoBoko dialog consists of four parts:
I. Outside Pattern
II. Inside Pattern
III. Base Effect
IV. Viewer
I. Outside Pattern
• Outside Bevel Pattern Menu contains eight distinct rectangular patterns:
1. Deko: Raised button
2. Boko: Recessed button
3. Slope-OutIine: Raised button with an emphasized 3D effect.
4. Slope-InOut: Recessed button with a rounded “in to out” effect.
5. Swing-In: Button with the four edges pinched up.
6. Swing-Out: Button with the four edges sunken.
7. Gradient-TL: Button shades a two part border from a light colored center to darker on the opposite edges.
8. Gradient-BR: Button shades a two part border from a dark colored center to lighter on the opposite edges.
• Outside Bevel Balance Control: The transition area, percentage of total area used for the rise or drop of the effect, for Deko or Boko Bevel is controlled with the Balance. This parameter’s effects are seen in real time on the viewer to the right. The percentage from 1-100 can be achieved on the sliding scale.
• Outside Bevel Level Control: This parameter allows you to set the shading levels for the bevels. The lower the value the darker the effect will become. The values from -100 to +100 give you complete control over the lighting.
• OutsideHighlight Slider: This slider only works with the Deko and Boko Bevel patterns. This parameter gives you even more control over the highlighted sides of the bevel. The greater the value, the more the sides are highlighted. The value ranges are from 0 to 100.
• OutsideShadow Slider: Similar to the OutsideHighlight slider, this parameter only works with the Deko and Boko Bevel patterns. This slider gives you more control over the shaded sides of the pattern. The greater the value, the darker the shade. The value ranges are from 0 to 100.
• Outside Bevel Size Slider: This slider determines the size of the outside bevel as a proportion of the selected area. MAX refers to the maximum value you can set. The Viewer at the center reflects the change. A maximum value on the Balance control would create a pyramid effect for the button.
• Outside Division Setting: This parameter determines the number of divisions in the bevel. 1Part is a solid shape; 2Parts is two shapes, and 4Parts cuts the bevel at all 4 corners of the selection.
• Outside Parts Balance Control: This setting is available for the Deko and Boko bevel patterns. You can enhance the difference between the parts through this control. The available settings are Standard, Far Distance, and Near Distance.
Standard makes the difference in the balance nearly even and provides a smooth transition between light and dark. Far Distance makes the difference in the light balance greater. Near Distance provides a smoother transition, but you lose some accent on the highlight and shadow areas.
II. Inside Pattern
• Inside Pattern Menu contains one flat pattern and four gradation patterns for the inside of the button created by the DekoBoko filter. This menu shows the icon of the patterns beside each of the menu items:
1. Flat: You can adjust the brightness area for the entire area of the inside.
2. Linear: This pattern generates a gradient.
3. Quad: The brightness of this one is lower in the center.
4. RevQuad: The brightness is lower at both sides.
5. Cubic: This generates a “wavy”brightness curve.
• Inside Pattern Balance Control: A slider from 1 to 100% allows you to set the transition greater as the value increases. The effect is displayed on the viewer in “real time”.
• Inside Pattern Level Control: The inside pattern becomes darker as the values increase from -100 to +100. The effect is displayed in the “real time” viewer. When you select the Flat pattern, the value 0 does not show any change to the base image.
• Inside Pattern Direction Button: These buttons allow you to set the inside pattern from one of the six preset directions.
III. Base Effect
The Base Effect area allows you to set the overall effect of the image using 3 color options:
1. Brightness: Use Brightness to create a transparent bevel on the base image.
2. Grayscale: is designed to take advantage of layers. Use this when you want to create a beveled texture. Try Grayscale with screens or layering over the entire image area rather than Brightness.
3. Mono Color: Creates a bevel based on a selected single color. The original base image is replaced. You choose the color through the Color Picker located to the left of the menu. To select the color, bring the cursor over the color box. When the cursor changes to an eye-dropper, click down to reveal the sample color bar. You can select a color anywhere on the screen from where you depress the mouse button.
IV. Viewer
• Shows a rectangular preview of the button created.

Chameleon
The Chameleon filter remaps a user defined range of color to a newly defined range. This filter works in the RGB mode.
Chameleon consists of the following components:
• Preview areas for the original and effect images
• Settings to define the color range you wish to change in the original image
• Settings to define the new color range for the effect image.
MagicMask
MagicMask is the centerpiece of WildRiverSSK. This filter provides you with an incredible set of effects in a single filter engine. We have provided a brief description of the 24 patterns of this filter. Also, you will find Adviser comments on how to manipulate the pattern’s functions for best results. Once you have mastered MagicMask there is an unlimited variety of effects at your fingertips.
Supported Models:
• RGB
• Grayscale
Description of Patterns
MagicMask has 24 sample patterns. Those provided as icons are generic to the pattern. You can change the effect completely by varying the parameters.
-DekoStamp
This pattern creates a 3D effect by raising a selected area of an image. Alone, you can use DekoStamp as a simple drop-shadow filter. Used in combination with other patterns you can enhance the effect with dramatic results.
-BokoStamp
The reverse of DekoStamp, this pattern creates its effect by sinking the selected area of the image.
-Metalize
This pattern creates a metallic texture for the selected area of the image The MeltEdgeLevel parameter controls the amount of the effect on the boundaries of the selection. The higher the MeltEdgeLevel value, the more liquid the boundary appears.
-ElectroPlate
You can create a metallic texture for the inside and outside of your selection. This gives the effect of metal melting outward.
-Eclipse
Colors in the selected area are darkened with a bright edge from the light source like a lunar eclipse.
-Plateau
This pattern creates its effect by raising the outer edges of the selection and casting a shadow. The result makes the interior of the selected area appear flat.
-DekoEdgeStamp
Extra emphasis is placed on the edge of the selection as it is raised. The edge will stand out with a jagged appearance.
-BokoEdgeStamp
As with BokoStamp this pattern sinks the selected area, but with emphasis on the edges. The edge stands out with a rough looking outline. Colors in the selected area become darker as a result of the image sinking into shadow.
-DropShadow
You can create black, gray or white shadows outside of the selected area with this pattern.
-CutOut
This pattern cuts out the selected area, creating a “hole” effect. As you set the value of the XY Level parameter higher the distance to the bottom of the hole increases. Brightness can be used to control the light level inside the cut out.
-MetalShadow
This pattern allows you to create a metallic shadow and dictate the direction of the light source. As you increase the parameters, the metal effect is increased.
-PolarFlash
This pattern creates a white halo or nimbus from the center of the selected area migrating outward. The color of the original image remains along the edge of the selection.
-LicensePlate
This pattern creates a rounded 3D shape, similar to stamped metal.
-WoodBlock
This pattern allows you to create a 3D effect near the outline of the selection, similar to that seen in wooden building blocks.
-Satin
With Satin, you can create a puffy effect, similar to a soft satin pillow.
-Sunspot
Sunspot lightens the surrounding area of one side of a selection and darkens the other side. If you apply Sunspot to a selection filled with a dark color and apply the pattern again with the light source from the opposite direction, the outline will have a white halo.
-Carving
Carving pattern creates a rounded groove along the outline of a selection, similar to wood or marble carvings.
-Quilting
This pattern adds the effect of a quilting seam along the outline of the selection.
-SolderIron
Related to Quilting, this pattern creates a groove around the edge of a selection similar to what a hot soldering iron drawing on a block of plastic would create.
-Marble
You can create a marble texture within your selection with this pattern. The marble texture spreads as you increase the parameters.
-Graffiti
The Graffiti pattern provides you with a unique speckling effect, similar to a painted concrete wall. You may have any color inside the selection.
The following patterns utilize the Color Pick-up on the left of the Preview. You can pick up any color from screen.
-ColorShadow
This pattern drops a colored shadow selected through the Color Pick-up in the direction specified by the light source.
-PhantomFlicker
You can create a colored smoke effect with this pattern. This pattern works especially well with text and similar shaped objects. The direction of the smoke is controlled by the XY Level and the light source.
-Plasma
This pattern creates a plasma effect at the center of the selection area which wisps outward with an aura outside the outline. The color of the plasma and aura is selected through the Color Pick-up.
Magic Curtain
MagicCurtain creates gradational fills based on selected waves. The original image can be used as a texture to create “wavy” backgrounds. These textures can be used as base images for other filters.
MagicCurtain provides 42 built-in base waves which can be modified through various parameters to create an unlimited number of textures.
